A letter written by a young communist to his fiancee before breaking off their engagement:

There is one thing in which I am in dead earnest about, and that is the communist cause. It is my life, my business, my religion, my hobby, my sweetheart, my wife, and my mistress, my bread and meat.

I work at it in the daytime and dream of it at night. Its hold on me grows, not lessens, as time goes on; therefore, I cannot carry on a friendship, a love affair, or even a conversation without relating it to this force that both drives and guides my life. I evaluate people, books, ideas and actions according to how they affect the communist cause, and by their attitude toward it.

I’ve already been in jail because of my ideals, and if necessary, I’m ready to go before the firing squad.

O that we would live for Christ with even greater dedication than even this!

It will be a joy to one day stand in God’s presence fee from sin, free from distractions, and free from the competing loyalties in my heart.

A reminder from TDAC1

Something I learned yesterday: “You can’t merely ‘pretend’ in acting. Acting has to be grounded in truth, you must believe it. Once the actor knows they are lying, they cannot go on.” – my TA

Romans 1:25 says: “… they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator…”

This is the reason why people live the way they do. As a whole, men have believed a lie and live clinging on to that lie as the truth. There is no other way to live until the truth is revealed and the lie is exposed.

Only when we realize we are living a lie will we enter into a life grounded in reality.

“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” John 8:31-32

A few reminders to myself:

  1. The purpose of my evangelism is not to make those around me act like Christians but to declare the truth, which has the power to set people free.
  2. If I know the truth, I should not and cannot continue to live the lie.
  3. The truth has come to me with a staggering price: the blood of Christ.   (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)
  4. Drop the act with all its lies and live life the way I was meant to live it! (Ecclesiastes 12:13)

Where was God?

Where was God in all the goodness of 2012?

How can God be righteous and do so much good to us who are so unrighteous?

So as the year ends, I bow my head as an undeserving sinner, amazed that I have not been swept away. And even more, that because of Jesus, I am forgiven, adopted into God’s family, and destined for eternal life.

God has been good to us. And his best gift is the one that will be there when all the others fail. Jesus, crucified, risen, reigning.

Where was God?

the Word became flesh

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
